Start with Practice
The goal is simple: clear your group of balls, then legally pocket the 8-ball. Getting there is all about control.
Open Practice to become familiar with the game. Hold your phone in landscape, take a moment to find the aiming and power controls, and try a few shots before entering a multiplayer room.
Aim, set your power, take the shot
- Choose a legal target. Look at your assigned group and identify the ball and pocket you want to play.
- Adjust your aim. Move your aim on the table and use the aiming guide to line up the contact.
- Choose your power. Use the power control to set the strength of your shot. More power is not always better.
- Watch the result. Notice where the cue ball stops. That position sets up your next shot.
Once you are comfortable, explore the cue-ball spin control in Practice. Start with small changes and compare how the cue ball moves after contact.
Solids, stripes, and the 8-ball
Solids are numbered 1–7. Stripes are numbered 9–15. Watch the player display for your assigned group; do not assume a ball pocketed on the break always decides it.
After groups are assigned, your first contact must be with a ball from your group. Once your group is cleared, the 8-ball becomes your legal target. Follow any call-pocket prompt before shooting.
Pocketing it early, pocketing it with a foul, or missing a required pocket call can lose the rack. Break-shot handling depends on the selected rules.
Know the common fouls
- Pocketing the white cue ball, also called a scratch.
- Failing to hit an object ball.
- Hitting the wrong group first after groups are assigned.
- Failing to pocket a ball or reach a cushion after legal first contact.
A foul normally gives the opponent ball in hand. When the game allows you to place the cue ball, use the highlighted placement area and confirm a valid position. Break rules may limit where it can go.
